America had its say on Saturday. An estimated five million people turned out coast to coast, to let our government know that we are not going to sit back and let them turn our Republic into a dictatorship.
And WNC was not sitting on the sidelines. An estimated 2-3,000 people turned out for protests in Asheville and another 1500-2000 people in Hendersonville.
It was great that so many people turned out, but what made it sweeter was that the would-be dictator, President Cheeto Face had a completely miserable day. His "Birthday Parade" was a total dud, not the autocratic display of power that he wanted. In fact, you could make a case that the army was giving him a big middle finger by deliberately not putting on a good show. The parade was sparsely attended and the assembled MAGA officials, from the President on down, seemed embarrassed. Except Melania, who couldn't suppress a smirk over the whole thing.
MOAC musicians performed at both the Asheville and Hendersonville protests.to help rally the people! We sure had a blast playing for the big crowds and yes, doing our bit to let the voice of the people be known!
A great turnout of fired-up folks!
Getting ready to sing out for the people!
We gathered nationwide to tell them, "NO!"
Unlike the Cheeto Presidents dreary Dictator Parade, our gathering was joyful.
Marchers were endlessly cleaver with their signs...
Takin' it to the streets~!
The Day of Action for Lives at Risk on 5/18 several hundred demonstrators to Pack Square Sunday. Numerous area groups manned tables including Indivisible, the Sierra Club, League of Women Voters and the Buncombe Co. Democrats. The event drew 4-500 people, many of whom were affiliated with the groups sponsoring tables in Pack Square for the afternoon.
An estimated 500 protesters came out for two separate rallies in Hendersonville and several hundred more at Pack Square in Asheville May 1. Keep the pressure on, friends! (Photo: Citizen Times)
Wow! What a great day it was at One World Brewery West, where MOAC and Indivisible AVL co-sponsored our first-ever "ResistDance." The idea was formed by the members of MOAC (Musicians Organizing Activist Committee) and made a reality with a lot of help from a lot of good people!
If you weren't there, you sure missed out! But don't worry, we'll be planning more events. and announcing them soon. Bookmark our site and keep coming back!
Along with our speakers we had three great Asheville bands playing on one terrific bill. Rock While Rome Burns opened up the afternoon with their hard-rocking message songs. O-Vad-Ya followed with their musical alchemy, a mixture of musical influences like no one else has. And finally, Sal Landers Party Rx, led by a lady who leaves it all on the stage every time!
Although music abounded, the "ResistDance" was primarily a POLITICAL event. We had two great speakers to get the room fired up. Indivisible-AVL was our co-sponsor and their President, Robin Lively Summers, sure gave us plenty to think about. Asheville City Councilwoman Kim Roney also did some serious rabble rousing!
It was an afternoon of music and politics, but the best part the "ResistDance" was the vibe. There was a feeling of togetherness among like-minded people who don't wear red hats! So many of us have been upset and worried about what's going on since the current regime took power.
American institutions are being dismantled. People are being arrested with no charges and jailed with no trial. Shameless, unbridled corruption permeates the government, and everything seems to be "for sale!" Unelected hatchet men are tearing down the services we depend on. Many of us have this sinking feeling that America is morphing into something the Founding Fathers never meant it to be - a kingdom!
It's scary, we're all worried about what the next few months will bring. But we're not powerless -we can write our officials, flood their phones and jam their email boxes. We can show up at their offices and their town halls and MAKE THEM LISTEN! We can meet, we can dance, we can network, we can plan.
Remember what "V" said in the movie "V for Vendetta" - A revolution without dancing is a revolution not worth having!
As with any event of this nature, many people worked together to make it happen. and we'd like to think them here:
- One World Brewing for hosting us at their fine establishment. Especially to their wonderful staff.
- Indivisible Asheville for co-sponsoring and manning a table.
- City Councilwoman Kim Roney for speaking.
- Indivisible AVL President Robin Summers for speaking.
- IamAVL for live streaming our event.
- The bands - Rock While Rome Burns, O-Vad-Ya and Sal Landers Party RX
- The MOAC Team - Alan, A.G., Charlie, Holly, Jim. Dee, Bryon, Kate and the rest of the crew.
- But most of all, we want to thank EVERYBODY WHO TURNED OUT! Keep pushing ahead and fighting the good fight!
MOAC strives to organize events and peaceful protests thru music to support justice and freedom for all.
